Developmental & Metabolic Disorders

Developmental and metabolic disorders include rare paediatric diseases resulting from a genetic, developmental abnormality during foetal or postnatal growth and rare conditions affecting the body's metabolism. Developmental medicine is a broad area of focus at the University of Oxford and within the Harrington Discovery Institute. Atul Chopra, MD, PhD at Harrington Discovery Institute specialises in rare, genetic metabolic and hormonal diseases. The OHC works in partnership with the new Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM). The mission of the Institute is to develop new drugs for disorders that have a developmental origin, including neurodevelopmental disorders. Oxford’s Cardiovascular Medicine Division has world-leading groups researching rare inherited heart disease, focusing on screening, disease models, imaging and novel therapeutics.
